(a)

General improvement in the efficiency of

this Department through the possibili- -ty of communication with this office out of office hours, which is not practicable at present.

Notification of the approach of their

vessels to Mercantile Firms would be issued from this office by

telephone, or in writing. (the former for preference), to such

firms as desire it, and pay a fee as at present.

11.

The Meteorological Reports from Gap Hook

Cape D'Aguilar, and the Fear Signal Station, which are now sent

thence to the Telegraph Office, and transmitted from there to the

Observatory, would arrive here instead, and be transmitted by us

to the Telegraph Office, either by telephone or in writing, as

may be desired.

12.

£100 per annum is now paid to the Tele-

-graph Company for the work done for this Department. This sum

would be saved, as would be whatever sum now received by the

Wharf and Godown Company for their services see 3, (e). I can

find no record of any such sum being paid, but presume that there

is such a charge.

13.

The first cost of installation would be

approximately £150, apportioned as follows:-

Four Recording instruments at £25. Two kelays for ditto..... .at £5.

Switch or Flug board..
